They are bubble gum pink. They are very easy to slip on and slip off. They are slightly sweaty because they are PLASTIC. I swore I wouldn’t have any more oil in the wardrobe.

Curating a more responsible, ethical wardrobe is a minefield of complexities. There are levels of adherence: I try to only buy five things a year, I research all brands before I buy from them, I like to support independent designers where I can. I could be perfect, and I’ve tried to be.

A Linked In post from a plastic free sportswear brand recently tore into those who are part of the plastic recycling business, pouring scorn on anyone who supports efforts to recycle the mountains of plastic we already have in the world. Plastic is a genius material: it is cheap and hardy. But there’s too much of it, and it sheds. So what led me to think a pair of pink plastic Birkenstocks was an okay idea?
